WORDS ABOUT MY ART, as i see it [words & life changes] …
My work is outwardly influenced by elements of rustic architecture & rural frugality, balanced with a sense of authenticity & empathy in the poetry of natural decline & decay. Philosophies that embrace solitude & imperfection, such as wabi sabi, also inspires my work. I work variously & intuitively in paint, print & collage. My textural, abstract paintings are ‘slow’ quiet engagements with the intricate materiality of the painted surface; minimalist evocations in colour & texture to convey mood & emotion. I am interested in the sensory, atmospheric dimensions of places in isolation & transience. Creating collages from ‘fragments of fragments’ is my therapy, finding solace in the process of (re)construction & (re)connection. I am mindfully absorbed by how the colours & textures I create interact, where edges meet, overlap, contrast. In life we metaphorically re-build & repair, and these philosophical musings filter into the personal fabric of my work.
Paint is drama, texture is poetry
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jazz Green was born on a tuesday, north of hadrian's wall. Jazz studied BA fine art at farnham (uca; university creative arts) followed by MA in fine art printmaking at the royal college of art. After graduating from art college, Jazz was one of twenty-two graduating artists in uk selected for the new contemporaries exhibition. Around the same time, Jazz joined Flickr sharing rural landscape photos on the theme of abandonment & decay, curating an art group for images on the theme ‘poetry of decay’. In recent years, Jazz has built & managed websites of other art creatives & small businesses using wordpress, and more recently with squarespace.
